What is Wagmi Defense?
WAGMI Defense is a tower defense game with a 3-minute gameplay loop where players strategize to destroy their opponent’s towers before their own are destroyed. It has a sci-fi theme, allowing players to choose between aliens or humans. In-game cards are purchased and owned by players, potentially resold on marketplaces like Gamestop NFT.
The storyline behind the game is intriguing. Set in 3022, aliens need NiFe, a core element of Earth, to survive. Their greed sparks a war to destroy Earth. Humans form WGAMI (We’re All Gonna Make It) to fight back against the aliens.
What are your responsibilities as CEO of the WAGMI project?
Golf and cigars all day… just kidding! There are countless moving parts to this project. My role is to guide the project in the right direction using my decades of business experience. The team is highly skilled and dedicated, which makes my job easier.
Why did you want to create Wagmi Games?
Crypto gaming represents the future of NFTs. The NFT industry is still in its infancy and was mostly misunderstood during the hype of 2021’s collections. We see digital asset ownership as an integral part of the evolution from web2 to web3, and gaming is the most natural progression. Our goal is to create an enjoyable mobile game that integrates digital ownership, leading the charge in this emerging sector.
What utility does a Genesis NFT offer?
Genesis NFT holders will receive an equal share of a 10% tax from in-game marketplace mints. Wagmi Games will also release a series of comic book NFT drops, with the first one scheduled for Q4 2022. Genesis holders will have whitelist access and may receive free comic drops depending on how many Genesis NFTs they own.
How would you describe a typical workday at Wagmi?
Our team is spread across the globe, which makes things exciting. There is no such thing as a “normal” workday in the wild world of web3 development. Every day is an adventure!

How did you discover Immutable X?
I followed the launch of IMX last year, and their solution really resonated with me, as they were solving a significant issue—eliminating gas fees on Ethereum transactions. As we began developing the game and couldn’t find a solution to completely eliminate gas fees, we decided to adopt IMX’s technology. We reached out to one of IMX’s business development directors and kept the dialogue going for several months. Once we showed them what we had been working on, our shared vision for mass adoption clicked, and we officially partnered with IMX.

I’m a huge fan of WAGMI Defense! Honestly, our team plays more games than I do—I’m getting old.

What are the next steps for Wagmi?

Ian says: In the short term, we plan to launch the in-app version of the game in BETA. Once the game and user experience are ready, we will publicly launch on the app stores. Our long-term goal is to grow our user base. Because we are a mobile game, our development time is relatively short, allowing us to release additional games as early as 2024.
Who came up with the idea behind Wagmi Defense?
The idea behind the game was created by our Chief Gaming Officer, Luis Trujillo. He is the genius behind the game’s lore and design.
What future prospects do you see for Wagmi Games?
Is the game still expected to launch in October?
We hope to become the poster child for web3 games, demonstrating how mass adoption can happen without forcing NFTs and crypto onto players. We’re currently in beta and plan to launch the app beta version by the end of October.

I first dipped my toes into the crypto world with mining, but that didn’t go as planned. When I saw NFTs creating real commerce, I became excited about the future of blockchain technology.
Markus at CryptoChipy replies: I had a similar experience with mining—spent a lot, and my mining machine broke. Few people outside the industry truly understand the utility and potential of NFTs.
What is your favorite cryptocurrency (aside from Wagmi)?
The one that brings the most returns!
What are your thoughts on the ETH merge?
Do you believe the complete merge will happen this month?
I think it’s good for the environment and for transaction speeds. Since we’re building on L2 to eliminate gas fees, it doesn’t affect our goals. There’s no reason why it shouldn’t go smoothly, though with technology, anything can happen.

Should our readers be excited about WAGMI?
We’re one of the few gaming franchises focusing on mobile, which generates over 50% of gaming revenue. We aim to become the pioneers in web3 mobile gaming.
Do you view WAGMI as a fun project for creativity, or do you see it as a financial opportunity?
I don’t get involved in projects solely for the financial rewards. If I can’t be creative, I usually get bored. That’s definitely not the case with Wagmi Games.
We prefer to operate professionally, unlike hype token projects that focus on “alpha.” We’re continuously working behind the scenes to build new partnerships. This is a serious business, and we are very transparent with our roadmap. We encourage our supporters to tune into our Twitter spaces and AMAs for valuable updates.
